@Smart-Communities, can said you installed the background agent, but will you you please verify you have a Windows service called TRIGGERcmdAgent and it's started?

The background agent is responsible for running background commands, and including them in your list of commands on the website.

About pushing new commands from the account dashboard to the PC - long ago I decided that would be too risky security-wise. If someone got ahold of your password they could run any command they wanted on your computer. That could be dangerous.

I think I could add a field on the computer showing the last time it was online. I'll look into it.

@Russ yes Triggercmd PID 1440 is running with Startup set to automatic.

My trigger list only shows notepad and calculator.

This has always been the case for me but I thought it was because I was using Windows AME. This is on a standard win 11 install.

@Smart-Communities, can you send a screenshot of the Windows service like this?

          01054071-f1bf-4a2b-859e-cc9e9a13ba44-image.png

I'll test on my Windows 11 box tomorrow.

I just tried running this d:\tools\logger.bat script in the background agent and it worked, but this is a Windows 10 machine.

          247551ad-405d-4e0c-95a2-aef4b3a14a18-image.png

The d:\tools\logger.bat script just has this line in it:

          echo from background >> c:\background_log.txt

I see this in my c:\background_log.txt file:

          from background

          EDIT:
I installed the background agent on my Windows 11 box, and created my logger command as a background command. The trigger showed up in my account. I tried running it and it worked for me. I got an entry in my log when it ran.

So I'm not sure what's going wrong on your Windows 11 machine. You could try removing and re-installing your background agent.

@Smart-Communities, I don't think you're doing anything wrong, but I don't know yet what went wrong.

                  Can you try two things?

                  1. Rename the background command and see if it shows up.

                  If it doesn't, try:

                  1. Uninstall and reinstall the background agent and see if it shows up.

@Russ neither of those worked but here's what did.

I ran "update agent" which stated Background service must be reinstalled once update is complete. Upon reinstalling background service after the update I was able to see the background command.

My triggercmdagentsetup is on a thumbdrive. Is that bound to a specific version of triggercmd?

@Smart-Communities, that's correct. It doesn't download the latest version when you run the pre-downloaded agent installer on your thumb drive, it will install that specific version when you run it.

So I'm guessing either the uninstall / re-install fixed it, or maybe there was a bug in the version you had on your thumb drive.

Anyway I'm glad it's working now. Sorry for the trouble.

@Russ downloaded newest and same issue. To be clear, the background agent is automatically installed when TriggerCMD is installed. That correct?

@Smart-Communities, no that is not correct.

You install the background service by right-clicking the TRIGGERcmd tray icon and clicking Background Service - Install Background Service.

@Russ Apologies Russ. Not sure why I thought that. Maybe because it was a default command when installing. Anyway sorry to waste your time.
