Command Doesn't Work If PC Hasn't Been Used Recently (Not In Sleep)
-
Hi Russ
Can you help please?
I'm triggering a command through integromat > it triggers to open a BAT file to then open an excel file
If i've used the computer in the last hour, and i've closed the laptop lid, the triggercmd command via integromat works fine, without any issues
The PC is not in sleep mode, it's set to NEVER be in sleep mode.
But if i haven't done anything manually on that computer for more than a few hours. The laptop stops responding to the triggerCMD command until i've opened it up and done something manual on it
Other commands through windows task scheduler work fine without any issues (when the laptop lid is closed and i haven't done anything manual on it for hours/days). It just seems that if the laptop has not been active for a few hours it doesn't want to respond to triggercmd
If log in to the laptop a with remote desktop software "nudge it / reactivate it", trigger CMD will work after i've done that for a while. Again, I repeat, the settings for the laptop are to never go to sleep even when the lid is closed
I tried installing the "background service" for triggercmd to see if maybe that had anything to do with it, I assume it didn't because this command i'm trying to run is just to open a bat file, the background service didn't seem to make any difference
Do you have any ideas please?
thanks

@alexander-cleary, I would have suggested the network connection is going to sleep but if you're able to login with remote desktop software, that confirms the network is still connected when it's in that state.
If you want to try the background service, you'll need to switch the command's ground setting to background too. I don't think that's what you want though because Excel running in the background doesn't make sense.
Does it work if you just lock the screen with Windows-L instead of closing the lid?
One idea is maybe antivirus is software blocking apps from using the network when the PC isn't in-use.

Hi Russ
- No Anti Virus Software installed
- I have closing the lid set to do nothing, so it doesn't affect anything. Lock screen is not showing, I don't want it to, just the desktop is showing. This isn't the issue, because if i've done something manually on the computer within the past hour, trigger cmd works
It just seems that Trigger CMD goes into some type of sleep state after a period of inactivity on the computer. Task scheduler actions still work during this time

I'm trying to reproduce the problem myself. I setup my Windows laptop the same way - to not go to sleep when I close the lid (while plugged in to AC power). Hopefully I can reproduce the problem you see. I'll know in about an hour. So far I know it's working because I see the "Command ran" entries in the runs list.
Also if you haven't already done it, could you see whether leaving the lid open makes a difference?
EDIT:
I waited more than an hour and the TRIGGERcmd agent on my laptop is still responding.
My laptop is Windows 10. Is yours Windows 11 by chance?
